Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG) 2012-2013

What is the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) Program?

The TAG Program offers students guaranteed admissions to seven of the UC's that participate in the TAG Program. The writing of a TAG contract enables qualified students to be guaranteed admission to a UC one year prior to transfer. Interested students must satisfactorily complete UC and college/major specific TAG eligibility requirements.

In addition to the UC TAG program, Skyline College offers a TAG with California State University (CSU) East Bay.

What are the requirements for writing a TAG?

Eligibility requirements vary by college and major. In general, students must have completed 30 UC transferrable units by the end of Summer 2011, have a minimum GPA of 2.8 (higher GPA required for some majors and colleges), and have completed the requiremed lower-division preparation of the major.

Requirements for the CSU or UC TAG can be found at the Skyline College Transfer Center website.

UC TAG information can also be found at http://uctransfer.universityofcalifornia.edu/.

When and how do I apply for a TAG?

For the UC, TAG applications are submitted one year prior to a student's intended year of transfer. For Fall 2012 admissions, TAG applications are submitted online at http://uctransfer.universityofcalifornia.edu/ from September 1st, 2011 thru September 30th, 2011.

For CSU East Bay, TAG agreements must be completed and signed by a Skyline College TAG counselor no later than Tuesday, November 23rd, 2011. Students can schedule a counseling appointment at the Transfer Center.

IMPORTANT: The TAG application does not replace the admissions application. Students must submit a separate admissions application to the UC or CSU.

For the UC system, applications are submitted online at http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/ from November 1st - November 30th.

For CSU East Bay, applications are submitted online at www.csumentor.edu from October 1st - November 30th.

When will I know if my TAG has been accepted?

Students who apply for a UC TAG will be notified if their TAG has been accepted no later than November 15, 2011 for Fall 2012 TAG's.

CSU East Bay does not indicated specific notification date. Cal State East Bay will review the TAG. If accepted, a letter will be sent to the student indicating his/her TAG status and providing instructions on meeting with a Cal State East Bay counselor for further admission counseling and application instructions.

Do I need to meet with a TAG Counselor to be eligible to apply for a TAG?

Students applying for TAG’s with UC Davis, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Cruz are required to meet with a TAG counselor to have their TAG’s approved. While students applying for TAG's at other UC's are not required to meet with a counselor, students are encouraged to meet with a TAG counselor so that a counselor can help them determine if they have met the eligibility requirements for the college(s) and major(s) of their your choice.

Students interested in writing a TAG for CSU East Bay should schedule an appointment with a TAG counselor no later than Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011.

How do I schedule a TAG counseling appointment?

Prior to scheduling a TAG counseling appointment, students are required to attend a TAG workshop. TAG workshops are designed to provide students with an overview of the TAG process, including review of the online TAG application (UC) and review of specific TAG criteria for each college.

Schedule a TAG workshop appointment by visiting the Transfer Center, Building Two, Room 2227 or by calling (650)738-4232.

TAG Counseling appointments are schedule at the conclusion of the TAG workshop.

What should I bring to my TAG counseling appointment?

Studenets should bring the following to their TAG counseling appointment:

  • Unofficial transcript (for all colleges attended)
  • AP or IB scores, if applicable
  • For a UC TAG, completed TAG Eligibility Review Forms found at the Skyline College Transfer Center website (under the TAG/TAA link).

Students interested in the CSU East Bay TAG can download a copy of the agreement at the Skyline College Transfer Center website.

Does Skyline College offer a TAG with UCLA OR UC Berkeley?

While Skyline College does not offer a TAG with UCLA, Skyline College students who participate in the Honors Transfer Program are eligible to participate int the Transfer Admissions Program. For further information, please visit the Skyline College Honors Program website at http://www.smccd.edu/accounts/skyhon/.

UC Berkeley does not offer TAG's.

Does a UC TAG actually guarantee admissions to both the college and major of the student's choice?

The answer to this question depends on the college and major for which a student is applying. In general, students must meet all TAG eligibility requirements to be considered for a TAG. Some colleges guarantee admissions to the major, others guarantee admissions to the college but not necessarily the major.
