Campus Ambassador Program

The Campus Ambassador Program is an outreach (off campus) and in-reach (on campus) program designed to:

  • Raise awareness of State and Federal Financial Aid and Scholarship Resources
  • Encourage low-income and disadvantaged students to apply for financial aid
  • Assist students (current and prospective) and their families in overcoming financial barriers
  • Enhance communication with local feeder high schools, community organizations and the general public with financial aid information

 Benefits of being a Campus Ambassador:

  • Opportunity to build leadership and public-speaking skills
  • Gain comprehensive knowledge of financial aid and scholarship resources
  • Establish relationships with administrators, faculty, staff and students at Skyline College
  • Develop relationships with four-year university representatives and community partners


Students Reaching Out to Students

Campus Ambassadors serve as liaisons between the College and local high schools, community partners, give campus tours and assist with on campus activities such as FAFSA Workshops, Financial Aid Awareness Week and Weekly Financial Aid Tabling; they also represent the College at several community events such as, Cash for College and college fairs.

This semester’s Campus Ambassadors are Tiffany Ong and Jose Milan – please see below profiles. The program is facilitated and supervised by Jocelyn Vila, Program Services Coordinator and Foster Youth Liaison in the Financial Aid Office.

Current:  Campus Ambassador Profiles

Tiffany Ong:  Tiffany is a new addition to the Skyline Campus Ambassador team. Tiffany has been a Campus Ambassador since Spring 2011. She has been a student at Skyline since she was sixteen, and hopes to transfer to UC Davis in Fall 2012 with a major in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior. A self-admitted science nerd, Tiffany volunteered at the Exploratorium in high school and at St. Francis Memorial Hospital after that. In her spare time, she enjoys sewing three-tasseled jester hats and bragging about her four-year-old golden retriever, Jenga.  You can contact Tiffany at skyambassador@smccd.edu

Jose Milan:  Jose graduated from South San Francisco High School and became a Campus Ambassador in Spring 2011. Jose enjoys working with people and participates in several on and off campus outreach events and activities. Jose is very active on campus and is currently a part of the Puente Program and TRIO Program at Skyline College. He has also been involved in the Hermanos - Hermanas Program at both South San Francisco High School and Skyline. Jose plans to transfer to a University of California or California State University and pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Jose assists the financial aid office conduct weekly FAFSA Workshops.  He is fluent in Spanish and is able to assist our Spanish speaking students and families.  Jose is a recipient of the Osher Scholarship, Friends of Puente Scholarship and Silicon Valley Community Foundation Kumon Scholarship.  


Alumni:  Campus Ambassador Profiles

Noah Brown:  Originally from East Oakland, Noah has been a part of the Campus Ambassador team since May 2009. Noah is actively involved in outreach both on and off campus because he believes it is important to encourage all students to pursue their dreams and goals through higher education. He will be receiving a Certificate in Accounting in Spring 2011 and plans to transfer to a University of California or California State University in Fall 2011. His goal is to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Economics or Business. His involvements at Skyline College include: Associated Students of Skyline College (ASSC), Latin American Organization (LASO), Puente Program and TRIO Program. Noah is also a former Grove Scholarship recipient and is currently attending UC Riverside. 

Jorge Murillo:  Jorge graduated from South San Francisco High School in Spring 2008 and became a Campus Ambassador in Spring 2009. Jorge is passionate about helping others better their lives through higher education. He has served as the Vice-President of the Hermanos - Hermanas Club and Co-Director and Instructor of the Hermanos After School Program at Parkway Heights Middle School in South San Francisco. He is an active member of the Puente Program, and Hermanos - Hermanas Program at Skyline College. He plans to transfer to UC Berkeley in Fall 2012 with a major in Social Welfare and Minor in Education. He hopes to become a Marriage-Family Therapist and work with middle school and high school at-risk students. Jorge is a 2010-2011 Osher Scholarship Recipient. Jorge is fluent in Spanish and has conducted financial aid presentations in Spanish at several “Cash for College” events in both San Francisco and San Mateo County.  Jorge is currently working as an Admissions & Records II Assistant at Skyline College.
